We’re planning on getting married towards the end of the year, October/November. I don’t know where to get started on the planning.
We only want a very small wedding, 30-40 people tops, and it’s going to be pretty casual, so I thought there wouldn’t be a lot to plan, but it’s getting more confusing by the day, lol.

What are all the things I need to think about and in what order should I organise them?

Me and my fiance went for a meal last night to a restaurant/bar to have a look what it was like. We have seen some pics of it and thought it would be amazing for a reception. It is one half glass and has amazing views over the river where we live. I have never seen anything like it and i completely fell in love with it. Then the waiter told us it would be £10,000 to rent the whole restaurant for the day!!! i couldn’t believe it. Is that about right? We are going to speak to the planner tommorrow but i don’t want to seem shocked if that is the price and how much they are supposed to cost. We are having our ceremony in Mexico because we couldn’t afford a wedding over her but that amount for a reception is mad!

Right, me and my partner have decided that we are either going to get married in on October 2nd 2010 or May 7th 2011, the earlier date is depending on whether or not we can get the deposit ready for my dream wedding venue.

I just have a few questions regarding the registrar, do I need to check with them BEFORE I book the venue to ensure that there is a registrar available for that day? If I am getting married in a church do I still need a registrar?

Also, I want to download a wedding planner to keep up to date with the organisational side of things. I also want to get a wedding planner journal that I can take with me to dress fittings, meetings etc etc. Any ideas where to get a good one?

What is your best tip?

One last thing, does anyone have any unique ideas to make a wedding reception more original and fun for us and our guests?

My fiance and I are now a few weeks away from our wedding. My mum has done so much for us, she has been an amazing wedding planner to me and has spent a small fortune to ensure that me and my partner have everything we want for our day. My partner’s parents on the other hand have done NOTHING and not even offered!! My parents are a little peeved that my partner’s parents are doing nothing for us….
On the day of the wedding, during the speeches, we will be giving presents to varios people including our parents.
I would like to stand up after the official speeches and say an extra thank you to my parents as they have been so amazing and I would like to give them an extra present because I know that, although my mum is not expecting a present, she will be put out if she receives the same as my partners mum. Do you think it would be terrible to do this? Will it be too offensive to my partners parents? I won’t be saying they are crap just that my parents are great! What do you think?
Thanks for your answers. I had thought about taking my parents to one side after the speeches to give them an extra thanks and gift. I think I will do that. The tree idea was lovely!!!
Oh and also I had discussed this with my partner and he said he would like to give a little extra to my parents but we both were just a bit unsure of how to go about it. Don’t want to upset anyone, just show my parents we know how fab they are!

OK, sorry for the constant questioning but none of us knows much about weddings!

Firstly, if you don’t have a wedding planner, who sets up the reception venue? we think my cousin is getting married in a marquee at a hotel and we assume the marquee will be set up by the staff at the venue,
but who puts out the decorations and centrepieces and cutlery and stuff? does the bride do this herself the day before or something?

ALSO… do you have to have a wedding rehearsal? we all hate the idea of having it all pre-arranged as we think it will be less spontaneous… my cousin and her fiancee don’t like things too organised so is it really necessary? if so why?
