I call it “The New Way of Life.” Now yes i’m sure this is not an original but it’s original too me.
Each day a person is presented with decisions. All throughout the day. Most are small decisions like “Should I get out of bed now or press snooze one more time?” Other decisions are larger. Now most people know what the better decisions are to make in any given circumstance, but that doesn’t mean they will nec. make the right one. Let’s start simple. Decision 1: Should I take a shower before work? If I do, I will feel better and will be more likely to continue and get ready with picking out a good outfit to wear and comb my hair and all that and will feel better the rest of the day. If I don’t, I will probably just keep sleeping, get up at the last minute, throw just whatever on, and rush out the door, and I won’t feel as good throughout the day. SO, the correct decision is to take a shower.
NOW, these small decisions come up all throughout the day. Another one would be “Should I go to the gym today?” Of course you know you will be so happy you went to the gym everyday for the past year, but a year goes by and you didn’t go once and the question arises. “Why didn’t I go? I know I would be happy if I did. So why didn’t I?
So the “New Way of Life” philosophy is this:
Look at EVERY decision you come accross in a day, and make the one that you know you should. Write it down even and let what you write down dictate your life. If our lives were a video game, meaning you didn’t actually have to do anything other than click the button do do different things like go to the gym, everybody would say yes, go to the gym. So that’s what I’m going to start doing starting 4/26. I even have a calendar and a pocket book and a day planner to write down everything I am to do, that way every right decision is already made for me. And I will try to only do what is in the planner. I’m going to try it for 90 days. What do you think?
John is absolutely correct. It is a difference between long and short term satisfaction. I just think that most people, at least me, typically go with the instant short term gratification when it is almost always better than the long term. ALMOST…
*When it is almost always better to go with the long term gratification.

That’s what I meant to say.
Notice that I say I’m going to try it for 90 days. I’m not trying to say this is the way everyone should live and that I’m am a great philosopher. I’m going to try it and see how it works. The thinking is that if I make every decision I know I would want to have made in retrospec, that after 90 days of that I will be happy that I did.
Houston I think you’re getting a bit TOO philosophical! You’re missing the point.

To what good purpose does a planner calculate the best choices, if these choices can be later disregarded ?

Does a planner need to “burn his/her boats” to a certain extent,
in order to force good choices ?

Without kids dying each day of hunger, without poverty, without homeless people walking the streets, and everyone educated, or willing to be someone in life…even if they arn’t the smartest person.
