What’s a good gift to get an aspiring wedding planner? My best friend is obsessed with weddings. She’s wanted to be a wedding planner for years. What would be a good gift to get her? I thought about getting her a subscription to a wedding magazine but I’d rather get her something that will be useful to her for years to come and not just now. Plus she’s still in school full time so she won’t be doing a ton of wedding planning as of yet.

I am interested in networking with wedding planners in the area. I would like to do it by email. What are the things that I should bring up? Should I make it short and sweet? I was thinking about making a deal with them. Pictures of the wedding and $200 off the wedding package for the bride if she was referred by that particular wedding planner. Please give me ideas!!

I have been a venue manager and now am without a venue. I am thinking about planning events independently. I was wondering if the planner charges the client of if they just take a commission from the various vendors. Any insights? Thanks!

What courses or career path should one take in order to become a professional wedding planner? I’m currently an interior design major, which I feel would be helpful in creating a beautiful look/mood for wedding, but I don’t know if there’s a major that is preferred when looking into this career.

Ethereal asked:

I am in the process of starting my own private event planning company in colorado and I am not sure how much I should charge for my services. In the past I have done corporate work with pro teams and I have also worked as a private wedding planner in Southern California. I am planning on working private holiday parties, club openings, birthday parties and so on, but due to the diversity on my services I think I should charge by the hour opposed to offering packages. What is a good hourly rate for a private event planner with experience?

My Husband & I own & run a DJ service. We are willing to travel almost anywhere for our clients. We live in a metropolitan area & may travel as little as 5 miles to as many as 70+ miles. It can be difficult to meet some of the venues expectations. I have the reoccurring problem that the venue we are supposed to play at has a strict set up time. For example they want us setup between 10am-2pm, the event isn’t starting till 6pm. I prefer to go set up at about 4:30-5pm if we are traveling more than 25+ miles.

Sometimes if the GIG is near by my husband sets up early then goes to work then goes to play at the gig so its not that we aren’t willing to work with client or venue. I don’t mind setting up early but sometimes my husband has to work even when we ask for the day in advance they need him (full time job). I am not interested in charging more but I believe that some venues charge if they have to open again. I have heard something like $50.00 which isn’t much but it is still money.

What would you do? How can I include this in our contract so that clients aren’t surprised about having to pay a fee to the venue.

What stipulations can I include in my contract to protect ourselves & how can I word it so that it is clear.

I have tried to get clients to put pressure on the venue to accomodate us but because they charge extra I lose everytime. I guess I’d have to charge more than the venue inorder for client to be willing to pay venue fee.

FYI: I would hands down put Contract work before Job & pray for the bes

Bob the Boat asked:

Greetings to another year, Folks.

It is just that I have these fine people working on & off for us.

Six of us alogether, & I use the term “us”, as although I own the thing, I consider it to be a bit of a joint venture in life.

According to Company records >

I am a bit of a Christian/Pagan, so am not working today,
Empoyees are >
1 : Muslim. He is manning the fort. He has all the Eids off as hols, accoding to his faith. So no show on Fridays.

2: Devout Christian, who mis-understands, but has all the needful days off. Especially Sundays.
3: Jewish, so I do not ask him to turn up on a Saturday
4: Another Christian, who is ready to throw himself to the lions any old day
5: A lovely Hindu, who seems to work 365.

I am amazed at the diversity and freindliness of my little team.

We design complex power systems for the UK “Military”, and it is a party every other week for some celebration or other.

Oh, I am not bothered, and love said diversity of culture & beliefs, but the 2009 year planner is a nightmare !

Am I lucky in having this fine mixture of employees, or is that the “norm”

Bob
