It’s with a major funeral home in Southern CA. What is the turnover rate? What is the average salary for a funeral pre planner? What’s the typical working day like? How do you get leads and clients? Thanks!

Go talk to a funeral service that has a good track record, has a good service reputation, Funeral Association of America, it pays to talk to someone that has had a morturary for a long time.

It is a very good career if you take it seriously. My advice is to NOT sign up with a corporate-owned funeral home. If they are owned by SCI, Carriage, etc. go find a locally-owned funeral home. Reason is, you will be able to sell at lower prices, to families that are happier with the previous services, and make a much higher % commission with a locally-owned than with a corporate. Plus the payment terms as well as policy performance for the families you serve will be much better.

2nd thing is, learn about the funeral selections, General Price List, and funeral home specific information from the funeral home owner or a managing funeral director. They will probably NOT know much about the insurance and marketing side of your job. You will have to learn that through other channels.

Most preplanners make $30,000 to $50,000 a year but many make much more.

The best leads come from the families that have had funerals with your funeral home over the last 3-years. Especially the ones where the deceased was preplanned. They realize the benefit and are most likely to preplan themself. Direct mail, surveys, and referrals are how you get your appointments along with following up with families served.

    Good luck with it!
