If you have friends who are getting married ask them if you can plan their weddings for free. There are books on the subject which give a timeline of what should be done when. Of course you would have to have many consultations with the bride but it would give you practice at staying within budget. You would be making all of the phone calls and appointments and coordinating everyone involved in the wedding. Same with the rehearsal dinner. You would save the bride and her mother and the groom lots and lots of their time. Once you have a few weddings under your belt then you could advertise as a wedding planner with experience. By the way, the bride determines the color scheme and will pick out the dresses. It would be your job to do the ordering and following up on the order if necessary.

You could also see if you can get a job as a wedding planner’s assistant for the experience even if it would mean moving to a different city. Think of it as going to school. Judith

Find a wedding planner to work with. Find clients…Get your sources together – Set-up a portfolio with pictures and samples. You’ve got to find venues for all price points, florists, photographers, catering companies, supply chains, etc. You’ve already got a good start as a negotiater and with your flair for color. Start gathering all the things you need for a wedding (pics of venues/menus/pics of set-ups/linens, dishes/florals, etc.) and ask around. Find a friend who’s getting married and ask to help and soon you will become one. A business license, permits, etc. will be required when you go pro. Roo
